Vitamin K Description
Vitamin K -
Vitamin K is
a fat-soluble vitamin that exists
in two different forms and is an essential element in blood clotting
as it promotes the production of clotting factors, such as
prothrombin. Vitamin K helps prevent infection in the intestinal
tract by producing bacteria that is friendly to the digestive
process. Indeed, Vitamin K deficiency can contribute to the cause of
intestinal disease. Moreover, some antibiotics may actually destroy
the good bacteria and cause a Vitamin K deficiency as well. Vitamin
K is commonly given to newborn babies as a precautionary measure
against the incidence of hemorrhage and is given routinely as a
treatment for bleeding disorders. Vitamin K is normally found in
abundance in green leafy vegetables.
