Melatonin Description
Melatonin - Melatonin
is a hormone that is naturally produced in the pineal gland located
in the brain. Melatonin operates more or less as the body's clock in
that it keeps track of the circadian rhythms. Melatonin production
is great until a person reaches puberty and then it gradually drops
off. Some believe that Melatonin is an effective anti-aging hormone,
but studies are inconclusive. Melatonin is one of the most powerful
anti-oxidant compounds in existence and is used for the prevention
of heart attack and high blood pressure.
Supplementation with Melatonin is most effective against
sleeplessness because it appears to have the ability to regulate and
normalize body rhythms. As an additional consequence of this
property, Melatonin supplementation is very helpful for those
persons suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder.
Melatonin should be taken no more that two hours before going to
bed.
