effects have been known for over 4,000 years. In China, where its
known use developed, it was known as Ma Huang. Ephedra is thought to
be a remedy for cough and bronchitis, but it is taken for mild
respiratory disorders, including asthma, and for heart stimulation.
Ephedra has been used in connection with weight loss and is very
controversial. Even to the point of FDA approval. The main
ingredient of Ephedra is ephedrine. Epedra is from a plant that
grows mainly in Mongolia and neighboring high country. Ephedra
should be avoided if you suffer from high blood pressure, weakened
blood vessels, or thyroid disorders. Extended use of Ephedra can be
dangerous in that it leads to intolerance and to dependence.
